(62) Something Borrowed…

(62) Something Borrowed…

Happy Saturday Something Borrowed! While it is the weekend and I should be living it up, I partied a little too hard last night and need to rest up, work on some homework and finish my laundry.

I really love this week’s Something Borrowed post. “G”, the author, is an incredibly talented writer. His pieces are descriptive and vivid, leaving me with a feeling that I am right there beside him, experiencing his story as it unfolds on the page.

It’s just another wonderful example for me to try and model my writing after. I hope I can make him proud.

(47) Favorite Things

It’s that time of the week again kiddies! I hope you all had an excellent seven days and have a wonderful weekend ahead of you. A good friend of mine and his band are playing their first show ever tonight, so I am supremely excited.

Alright, let’s get down to business…

Michael Logen, “St. Christopher (On My Way)”

This lovely song is a find courtesy of One Tree Hill. To answer your question, yes, I do still watch OTH despite it’s rapid downfall post-high school years. That being said, the producers’ impeccable taste in music has yet to waiver. I cannot even fathom where my iTunes library and personal taste in music would be without OTH introducing me to MoZella, Keane, and my favorite Bethany Joy Galeotti. Michael Logen is an excellent addition to my ever-growing list and I will be extremely upset when OTH ends and I have to musically fend for myself again.

Essie Nail Color in Navigate Her

Normally, I’m not a fan of out-of-the-ordinary nail colors, but this creamy, dreamy avocado shade from Essie is simply delicious.

Florence + The Machine, “No Light, No Light”

At this point, I think it is fairly obvious how much I adore Florence + The Machine. With songs like “Shake it Out” and “What the Water Gave Me,” it is easy to see why I find her so infectious. “No Light, No Light” only further cements my belief that the world is a much better place with Florence in it.

J.Crew Natasha Top in Vivid Poppy

I am in l-o-v-e love with this flirty and fun blouse from J.Crew. I feel happier when I am wearing this lovely purple hue, and mixed with my bright green linen scarf and black BP Ginger Boots, I feel like I am wearing an instant hit, a timeless classic, and a million bucks.

(30) Picked All My Weeds and Kept the Flowers…

First thing’s first… HAPPY 30 POSTS!!!!!!!!! Woohoo! Only 470 more to go! Oy. Thanks for sticking with me through the first thirty days of Samantha. I hope you have enjoyed reading my blog as much as I have enjoyed writing it.

Alright, time to get down to business.

I pride myself on being able to make an excellent mix CD. That being said, I have a really hard time making a mix for someone and just limiting myself to one CD featuring the best of the best. I find it too challenging to pick the top 10 songs in my 10,000 song iTunes library. I just can’t do it, and end up giving my friends an entire library of musical excellence instead of just one great playlist.

I think my biggest problem is that listening to music is something as natural to me as breathing. I wake up with a song stuck in my head, I go to sleep humming a tune. I listen to my music library in both good times and bad, and have deep emotional attachments to every single song. Although my current favorites fluctuate from time to time, I’ll always find my way back to that forgotten song sooner or later.

For this post, I wanted to challenge myself to pick my top 20 favorite songs of all time and share them with you, but I felt too limited and was one step a way from a nervous breakdown because of it. Instead, I want to share with you all the songs that meant the most to me today, Monday, January 23, 2012.

In no particular order:

  1. Kelly Clarkson, Sober (Live at the Troubadour)
  2. Chris Mann, L.o.v.e
  3. Joshua Radin & Schuyler Fisk, Paperweight
  4. Bethany Joy Galeotti, Halo
  5. Kelly Clarkson, The Sun Will Rise
  6. Ella Mae Bowen, Holding Out for a Hero
  7. Pink, Just Like a Pill

Even now, I am still having a hard time stopping myself at seven songs. I keep thinking of others that, although I didn’t listen to them today, I love them so much I wish I did.

So instead of adding more songs to my list, I am going to leave you with this: From now on, including posting daily, I am going to post one song, just one, that I have selected as my anthem for the day. Although I have a feeling this is going to be more difficult than finding 500+ words to some up my life on a 24/7 basis, it is a challenge that I know, just like the rest of these challenges, will be extremely rewarding in the end.

(22) Writer’s Block

I have successfully started and scrapped five different posts for today. FIVE. I am pretty sure that is a new personal record. I am in a foggy post-Florida funk, and I can’t seem to find the light. My mind has been wandering to a million and one different topics, none of which have anything to do with me unpacking the open suitcase lying in the middle of my bedroom floor.

Basically, I am sending for a writing (and unpacking) S.O.S.

Any suggestions?

I will say, I was finally able to watch the final season premiere of One Tree Hill, and I was certainly not disappointed. I know the show has become absolutely terrible over the past few years, but I am still in love with the folks of Tree Hill, North Carolina. I haven’t missed an episode since it first started airing when I was in 8th grade, nor do I intend to.

One of my favorite things of One Tree Hill is the music, and I have downloaded hundreds of songs featured in the episodes into my iTunes library.

This week, there were four songs I found particularly wonderful…

“Reckless One,” by Sunday Lane:

Her voice is amazing and reminds me of the artist MoZella, another wonderful female singer whose songs often grace the storylines of One Tree Hill.

“Loaded Gun,” by Tyler Hilton:

Tyler Hilton is a staple on One Tree Hill, having acted on several of the seasons. His songs are a great blend of rock and country, and usually have a great acoustic twang to them. Once again Mr. Hilton, well done.

“New York,” by Blind Pilot:

This song is magic, and I get chills every time I listen to it.

“The Sun,” by The Naked and Famous:

To me this song sounds like melted dark chocolate: smooth, sultry, sexy, delicious.
