(72) Sometimes, There Are No Words

Yesterday was a rough day. It started off great, the promise was endless, and then all of a sudden it took a complete 180… and left me completely speechless.

It’s really not worth rehashing. At this point, what happened happened and I can either dwell on why it sucked or box it up, put it away, and never look back (at least not for a couple of days until I can get some head space and time to process.)

Most importantly, though, I need to remind myself of all the good things I have going on in my live right now. Not that I wasn’t aware of what they were 24-plus hours ago, but sometimes taking that extra moment to remind yourself why you rock makes such a difference.

Shoe shopping doesn’t hurt either. Good thing tomorrow’s pay day!

(71) I Need A Drink

So, in addition to overanalyzing everything, I also worry way too much.

It runs in the family. I’m pretty sure my grandmother majored in worrying in college, with a minor in the art of nagging, with my Dad receiving at least a certificate on the topic.

You would think being aware of the problem would help you get the habit under control, right?

Nope! It actually makes it worse. Because then you worry about why you can’t stop worrying, can’t stop overanalyzing, what your overanalyzing means, and why that worries you.

It’s really a vicious cycle.

The one saving grace? Tequila.

Although I rarely take advantage of it’s magical powers, it’s simply comforting knowing it’s there if I need it. I feel the same way about chocolate and double bacon cheeseburgers. Preferably when consumed as a trio.

(70) “Stay Out Of Your Head… It’s a Dangerous Place To Be.”

That, ladies and gents, is the best piece of advice I have ever received. Because it is 100% true. And I should know… I live in my head 89% of the time.

I think it’s safe to say I did a bit of overanalyzing my life this weekend at home. Lots of free time and not a lot of distractions will do that to a girl. And of course, the second someone asks you why you have been staring into space for the past 25 minutes with a look of utter confusion on your face, you are naturally going to voice those overanalyzed concerns you have been trying to silence and send away.

So much for getting control of my problem there. Whoops.

Other than letting the crazy slip through the cracks, I actually had a pretty decent trip home. It was great catching up with my seester, which is something I never thought I would say.

It’s not that I haven’t always loved my sister. It’s just that, with her being three years younger, we haven’t ever really had all that much in common other than the fact we are related. But I have always held out hope that one day that would change, despite copious amounts of evidence to the contrary.

I think the major turning point in our relationship was when my sister went off to college this past summer. Instead of being the not as pretty or smart sister with the better work ethic, I became the sister who had lots of recent advice in a new area of her life that she desperately needed advice in.

Finally, if only for a brief instant, I was cool. Kind of.

I’m sure after she reads this, we will slip back into frenemies territory. But it was fun while it lasted. Let’s try it again sometime soon!

(69) Something Borrowed…

Stunning photography. Absolutely breathtaking. A delicious delight for the senses.

If only I could get my iPhone to capture such vivid imagery.

THECULTKID

A few weekends ago, my friends and I decided to head up North for the hot air balloon festival. This year is the 17th Hot Air Balloon Festival, held in Clark, Pampanga. It was coined as the weekend of everything that flies, from hot air balloons, airplanes, kites and parachutes.

It was an approximate 2 hour drive from Manila, so we made it a point to make the road trip entertaining!

It was unfortunate though that the weather didn’t cooperate with us. It was a dark and gloomy day. But despite that, I was more than eager to watch the balloons take flight because this is the first time I actually went to the festival.

As the balloons went up, the sky lit up with colorful and humongous balloons of all shapes and sizes. It was magical. I could only wish I had the chance to ride one and kiss…

(66/67/68) Favorite Things (And More)

Before you say anything… I know, I have been an epic failure with blogging the past couple of days. Things have seem to gotten away from me a bit and it wasn’t until this morning that I had my, “Holy sh*tballs, I haven’t blogged in a few days!” epiphany. Oh well. At this point, I can’t fix the mistake but can only move forward.

This has been a bit of a crazy week. It’s been a great week, just really busy. I am home in PA for the weekend, so all of the things that I normally accomplish on my weekends had to get crammed into the past couple of days, on top of everything else I already needed to do. But I made it, and I am home and blogging all the way from the ‘burbs of Philadelphia.

So before I go into my Favorite Things of the week, I figured I’d fill you in just a bit on some of the more recent details. I am from an area about 45 minutes north of Philly, so whenever I trek it back home, I have to drive around center city to get there. So instead of making a beeline for Bucks County, I decided to stop in the city to have dinner with my cousin at one of my favorite restaurants, Continental Midtown, in one of my favorite places, Rittenhouse Square.

My sister and I are the only grandchildren on either side of the family, and we really only have two second cousins (the one who I had dinner with and her younger brother) so whenever we get the chance to catch up it’s great. That being said, at times dinner felt a little bit more like a war-zone interrogation than a fun and “light” meal.

Listen, I am well aware that my friends and family alike are only trying to be supportive when they ask how my ever-complicated familial relationships are going. And I appreciate them offering an ear and a strong hand to hold if/when I need it. But it is incredibly draining for me to talk about with one person, let alone the vast majority of my family members. So when the topic came up at dinner, although I am perfectly fine discussing the issue, it definitely altered my mood and the restaurant atmosphere a bit. Combine that with the appreciated, but not really successful, attempt to cover up the looks of disbelief and self-pity that it makes a girl want to order a venti margarita and call it day.

All in all, dinner was a lot of fun and it was great catching up. It’s just unfortunate that when I reflect on last night’s events my mind is clouded with the memories of family drama and not laughter.

With dinner over and my cousin safely delivered back to her apartment around midnight, I started to make my way home from Center City. Although I have a pretty decent sense of direction, it has been quite a while since I have driven anywhere in Philadelphia, let alone when it’s pitch black outside. Luckily, I have a GPS system on my phone to provide brief guidance until I can get my bearings again… or so I thought that would be the case.

I’m pretty sure my GPS was trying to kill me last night. When she would yell at me to turn left on a one-way street going right, that should have been my first indication that shit was about to hit the fan. But it wasn’t until I was accidentally directed to a point of no return onto the Ben Franklin Bridge leading towards Camden, New Jersey, that I realized this bitch seriously had it out for me.

First of all, being lost in Camden in general is something you should avoid at all costs. Combine that with the cocktail I had at dinner, it being 12:30 at night, and no safe way for me to turn my car around, it was kind of a disaster. Luckily I was smart enough to stay on the highway long enough to finally hit a U-turning point on the road, but I was fully prepared to drive all the way to Atlantic City in case I needed to in order to find a safe way to make it back home.

Which, obviously I did, otherwise I wouldn’t be able to tell you about it right now.

Alright kids. Story time’s over and it’s the moment we all have been waiting for….

I proudly present this week’s Favorite Things.

Taylor Swift ft The Civil Wars, “Safe & Sound”

Taylor Swift’s are always a hit-or-miss in my opinion. While some of them I absolutely adore, there are others I would prefer to have never heard in the first place. But I am loving this collaboration with The Civil Wars. I did take a few listens for me to truly see this song’s beauty, but the haunted quality of the song is too beautiful to continually miss and the dissonance in the chords is simply delicious.

Tribal Pattern Nails

While I usually tend to post nail-related things more centered around brand (Essie) and color, I couldn’t help but fall in love with these tribal printed fingertips as I was parousing Pinterest this morning. If someone could teach me how to be this handy with a few bottles of nail polish that would be great. In the meantime I will settle for being envious of a skill I certainly do not have.

Carrie Underwood, “Good Girl”

Carrie Underwood has claimed my fan devotion once again with this awesome upbeat number. She sounds amazing, the lyrics are fantastic, and overall it makes me want to dance and kick someone’s ass at the same time. Gotta love that!

Zac Efron and Taylor Swift Sing on Ellen

I am not really sure why I find this video so charming (I think Zac Efron’s natural good looks definitely have something to do with it), but I think it’s safe to say I am solely responsible for at least 2 of the 5 million hits it currently has.

(65) Analyze This

I like to overthink things. No, no… I have to overthink things. I cannot help but overthink things. While some may think this would provide me with copious amounts of insight and clarity, it tends to lead to quite the opposite. Confusion, delusion, and second-guessing to the point of insanity.

I hate the fact that I am an overanalyzer. Hate it, hate it, hate it. And yes, I realize I am overanalyzing my habit to overanalyze. But I can’t help it. Clearly.

Aren’t there certain things that you do that drive you insane? And not matter how hard you try, you still can’t stop yourself from engaging in that self-annoying behavior?

Think about it. You know you do it just as much as I do.

(64) Well, Isn’t That Ironic… Don’t You Think?

Oh Alanis Morissette, if you only knew how true those words are right now. Though your song describes situations more closely resembling coincidences than actual ironies, it still applies.

Have there ever been such strong parallels between your real life and a real life fantasy, that you find it’s hard to tell the difference between truth and fiction? No, I don’t mean in a delusional way. I mean, in an eerie, creepy, overlapping sort of way.

Well, whether or not you have any idea what I am talking about, I personally have been getting a weird sense of dreams versus reality deja vu these days. I’m not exactly sure why, but the songs I am listening to seem to be paralleling the books I am reading, which seem to be paralleling the television shows and movies I am watching, which seem to be paralleling my real life.

Coincidence? Irony? All/none of the above?

You tell me…

(63) The Epic Failing of Study Sessions

I should not be allowed to study with friends. Studying never happens. Drinking at happy hour while gossiping about people in my class happens. Reading my notes while knocking back a bottle of red wine happens. Being more concerned with boys and Twitter and One Tree Hill happens. But studying? Not so much.

Tonight my friend Allie and I attempted to study for our research test tomorrow. I think part of my problem is that I just don’t care. I graduate in May. I have already taken and passed multiple psychology research classes. I am more concerned with other things at the moment. And most importantly, I don’t care.

My lack of affect is a problem, though. Yes, I would much rather watch Mean Girls on TBS right now than study, but I want to pass my test. So study on I will, obsessively checking my Facebook and text messages every five minutes like a girl should.

(62) Something Borrowed…

(62) Something Borrowed…

Happy Saturday Something Borrowed! While it is the weekend and I should be living it up, I partied a little too hard last night and need to rest up, work on some homework and finish my laundry.

I really love this week’s Something Borrowed post. “G”, the author, is an incredibly talented writer. His pieces are descriptive and vivid, leaving me with a feeling that I am right there beside him, experiencing his story as it unfolds on the page.

It’s just another wonderful example for me to try and model my writing after. I hope I can make him proud.

(61) Favorite Things

Rain, rain, go away… I want to enjoy the warm weather today.

With Weather.Com continuing to claim that temperatures are going to rise to 72 degrees today, I will be taking cover from the raindrops in my internship office from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. That being said, the rain has me longing for the ability to make a cup of tea, climb into bed, curl up under the covers, finish reading The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, and continue watching He’s Just Not That Into You in an effort to keep me firmly grounded at Sanity Station.

But since when do we always get what we want?

While I can’t spend my day lounging around in my pajamas, I can share with you all my favorite things from this week.

TOMS Black Crochet Women’s Classics Flat

I’m going to be completely honest, I have never been a fan of TOMS. Mostly because, as someone who wears a size 10 shoe, I was absolutely convinced they would make my feet look like boats and that is something I tried to avoid at all costs. But I have been seriously contemplating getting a pair lately as springtime seems to be right around the corner. At my part-time retail job, we are usually unable to start wearing sandals until April. At that point, it is usually way too warm for my typical Ugg boot and fuzzy sock combo, and TOMS seemed like a natural choice to help me solve this dilemma. The only problem now was finding a pair of TOMS I actually liked. Enter these crocheted cuties. The lace-like pattern is absolutely adorable AND it does not look like I am wearing clown shows. Mission accomplished.

Essie Nail Color in Tart Deco

This color is a perfection addition to my springtime nail polish collection. Although it looks rather coral-y in the photo, when painted on my fingertips and tootsies, it has an orange sherbet/push pop quality to it that is simply delicious.

Toby Lightman, “Leave it Inside (Acoustic)”

I have always loved Toby Lightman, especially the songs on her Little Things album. The acoustic version of her song “Devils and Angels” might be one of my favorite songs, ever. And that is not a term I would use lightly. However, her acoustic version of “Leave it Inside” (also on Little Things) has been resonating more than ever this week. I am absolutely convinced, that almost 10 years later, her poignant lyrics were somehow meant for me. Click here or on the picture to take a listen… WordPress wanted to make my life complicated and did not allow me to embedd the video, naturally.

The Hunger Games

You didn’t think I was going to let a Favorite Things slip by without mentioning my absolute favorite thing of this week, did you? I cannot wait for the movie to come out March 23rd! I do not think I could be more excited if I tried.
